HOW TO LOVE INCHEON(How to go green)
A Diary from the Future(Saturday, September 12th, 2019)
The sky was high, and the wind was cool. My family was at the park, riding our bikes. The centeral park, which was made 10 years ago, was changed to a forest by hundreds of trees and beautiful flowers. The pine trees were not the baby trees they used to be, but the brave guardians and they became heaven to people who came to escape from the complicated city.
Little birds were flying and singing freely. Thanks to the waterway placed at the center of the park, people were having their lovely time on the boat. Like the flowers in the park, the smile bloomed happily even in the face of the people. I vividly remember the day the central park was first made. People shook their heads saying the plants would not grow well because of the land containing much salt. Moreover, some of them thought human cannot also live in this land. However, the central park was now changed a lot that people cannot think of the past. Owing to the efforts of the citizens, the Incheon has changes.
First, we practiced riding bikes to save nature. The road filled up with cars was changed into the road of bikes. The bike roads had made up. More and more people started riding bikes. Every houses had the number of bikes as their family number. The amount of waste gas decreased and people became healthy. Furthermore, trees breathed fresh air became greener and greener.
Next, Incheon planted trees in every parks.
People threw party on their special anniversaries. It was not having a feast, singing nor dancing. It was "planting one's tree." People planted trees believing that they could live when nature live. As a result, Incheon became the green forest instead of building forests. Now it became the city people most desire.
Finally, it's due to the loss of garbages. Because the trash creates a tremendous quantity of carbon dioxide, the air contaminates at a twitch.
The townsmen reduced the amount of the garbages they made. Also, a number of waste was recycled. Now the air of Incheon is fresher than any other mountains in korea. It's all because of the citizens considering the city their home.
There is a proverb saying "Ten years is an epoch" in Korea. This ten years really changed surprisingly. The mainspring of this enormous change is "the power of love." The citizens made the Incheon fresh by riding bikes, planting trees, and reducing their rubbish. How could this change could be accomplished without the love of Incheon?

Newly discovered local patriotism 'Impressive'
This is the second English writing contest about Green Incheon. Unfortunately, due to worries about infection of H1N1 virus in crowded area, the number of participants was less than in the last contest. However, it turned out that students' work this year was better overall. Most participants successfully wrote essays of the appropriate length and content.
The criteria on which the essays and poems were evaluated remained the same as in the past: clarity (fluency), creativity, coherence (structure), language (grammar and spelling). Most students expressed their ideas quite clearly, with good structure and creativity; however some students made many grammatical errors, which resulted lower evaluations. Unfortunately, some of the participants wrote fluently and at great length but digressed from the main point so subsequently they received lower evaluations. The problem we encountered in the evaluation process was that number of students wrote about the same topic and the points they made were almost identical. It would seem that they had practiced before coming to the contest. Due to this many of them did not receive as good an evaluation as they would have if they had written more independently. Some students' essays were obviously written with adults' idea and style and those were excluded.
Due to the apparent plagiarism mentioned above, the more creative essays received more attention and the grand prize is awarded to Hyun-A Chei who wrote about "How to love Incheon." In her essay she described the beauty of the future Incheon and she sees the beautiful Incheon will result from the efforts made by citizens in areas such as riding bikes, planting trees, and reducing wastes.
We hope that in the future students will write more creatively and make an effort to use their own ideas.
